If you are using a ready-made shampoo, carefully follow the labeled instructions. But we suggest using a home-made pre-shampoo - my personal fav is lathering a healthy mix of oil and conditioner in my hair for about 10 minutes before showering.
- Select the right shampoo
As hair is brittle and can get damaged easily. Many shampoos in the market contain harsh ingredients which can destroy your hair. You need to select your shampoo very carefully. Always look for sulphate-free shampoos and shampoos who contain organic hair oils because organic hair oils leave your strands soft and smooth. Sulphates are not good for your hair at all as they make your hair frizzy and dry.
- Must use a conditioner
As shampoo also washes some of the natural oils from your hair and scalp. To maintain the natural level of oil, you need to condition your hair after every wash. If you are not using a conditioner after shampoo, it can cause breakage and split ends. While purchasing a conditioner, always go for a conditioner designed for American hair.
- Deep condition hair once a week
There are two types of conditioners, one is regular conditioner which we use after every hair wash and the second one is a deep conditioner which you should use every week. The difference between a regular and a deep conditioner is that light conditioner only touches the surface of the scalp while a deep conditioner sinks into the hair shaft and nourishes the hair from the root.
- Moisturize, Moisturize and Moisturize
The best you can do for your hair is to keep your locks moisturized. The adequate moisture boosts fast growth and protects hair from split ends, damage and breakage. It gives a soft and bright look to your hair. The easiest and simplest way to moisturize your hair is drinking enough water. For the external moisturizing, use any olive oil, coconut oil or any other oil daily.
- Care for your hair ends
You should trim your hair after every 3 to 4 months in order to avoid split ends. Getting rid of split ends help your hair to grow smoothly and faster without any damage. After shampoo, the best way to dry your hair is air dry or just simply rub your hair with a soft towel. Avoid using a blow dryer as the excessive heat will damage your hair strands. If the use of blow dryer is must, then use the cooler settings.

Protein treatments, like keratin, are a new buzz and help to boost hair growth by making hair stronger. Different types of protein treatments are available for different hair types. If your hair is slightly damaged, then go for protein packs. For more damaged hair, light treatments work well and they come in the form of deep conditioning. For fairly damaged locks, deep penetrating treatments are recommended.
